What are terpenes ?
Terpenes, also known as terpenoids, are a large class of organic compounds produced by plants. They are the scent bearing, primary constituents of the essential oil component of many medicinal plants and flowers, and are the subject of increasing interest by researchers in regards to their potential therapeutic and medicinal applications. Today, terpenes and terpenoids are being investigated for their stand alone therapeutic effects, in particular their anti inflammatory, analgesic (pain relieving) and mood enhancing qualities. That said, they have not been listed in Australia as a thereaputic goods yet, so we do not imply any therapeutic benefits with that statement.

beta-Caryophyllene is a CB2 receptor agonist, interacting with the bodies endocannabinoid system. Studies suggest this action may reduce neuropathic pain and inflammation in mammals (study). CB2 receptors are distributed throughout the body, including in the skin nerve fibres and mast cells. As beta-Caryophyllene interacts with these receptors, this terpene may be efficacious in assisting with localised neuropathic pain and inflammation when applied topically. (link)
Myrcene is believed to exhibit analgesic (pain relieving) and anti-inflammatory properties due to its COX inhibitory action. (study)
Alpha-Pinene is found in high concentrations in coniferous plants and is currently undergoing research into its anti-inflammatory properties.
