In Ayurvedic medicine, Ashwagandha is a primary strengthening tonic, used for debility, inflammatory conditions, premature ageing, low libido, impotence and infertility. It may also strengthen the nervous and immune systems. Unlike many other adaptogens and aphrodisiacs, Ashwagandha is not over-stimulating; and may actually promote sound sleep, as well as meditation. It is also used for weak knees and back, joint and nerve pain, and arthritis.
